AWHITU ZEN

Balinese Influenced Holiday Accommodation

The location: Located in Big Bay on the Awhitu Peninsula. Balinese influenced retreat, designed for a romantic getaway and a very special Zen experience. Part of an exclusive coastal subdivision with pedestrian access to the beach. Spectacular north facing views across the Manukau Harbour to Sky Tower, Auckland City and the Auckland Airport.

The accommodation: Accommodates up to 2 guests (king size bed in separate bedroom, divan sofa in lounge). Fully equipped kitchen, BBQ area and outdoor fireplace for culinary adventures. Double hammock and sun umbrella for relaxation. New hot tub – No chemicals, fresh water for every booking. Private outdoor entertaining space.

The activities: Swimming, fishing, scenic walks, golf, and beachcombing at the numerous nearby beaches, explore Awhitu Wines, and enjoy blueberry picking when in season.

Beaches to Explore:
• Wattle Bay: A picturesque spot closest to Manukau Heads, with views towards the Waitakere Ranges on the opposite side of the harbour.
• Orua Bay: This beautiful beach has a unique feature — when the tide recedes, the beach becomes a legal road (Orua Bay Beach Road), providing access to some of the charming waterfront homes.
• Big Bay: For a visit to our local beach, turn right at the main gate and park by the playground. If the tide is going out, take a walk to the end of the beach at Mako Point. Keep an eye out for stingrays and the occasional shark, as well as a variety of fish species, including Snapper, Kingfish, and Flounder.
• Hudsons and Grahams Beaches: These white sandy beaches give you a grand stand view of aircraft as they either arrive or depart from Auckland International Airport. Both are considered to be safe swimming beaches and are also sheltered from the prevailing westerlies. If you are walking, these beaches are only approximately 200 metres apart, and each features a children’s playground with ample visitor parking.

Private Beach Access: Enjoy access to the beach below Awhitu Zen. Exit through the gate (code: 0309), turn right, and follow the track. At the bottom, use the stile and stay to the left to avoid private property.

For a scenic walk, head right towards Hudson’s Beach and Grahams Beach. The return trip takes about 2 hours. Be sure to check the tide, as the path may be inaccessible at high tide.

Awhitu Regional Park: Don’t miss Awhitu Regional Park! Stroll to the picture-perfect frame overlooking Kauritutahi Island, then continue past the small lake (home to friendly pet eels) toward the historic Brook Homestead. End your visit with a walk down to the beautiful beach.

Local Attractions:
• Awhitu Wines: Just a short drive away on Greenock Drive at Grahams Beach. It’s a wonderful spot to taste some local wines (check the pamphlets in the lounge for details).
• Pollok Arts Centre: A fantastic showcase of local artistry. Stop by for unique handmade items created by talented artists.
• Awhitu Golf Club: Play a round of golf (9 holes) or enjoy a Friday night meal from 5.30pm.
• Heads Harbour & Hills Book: In the lounge, you’ll find a book detailing the rich history of Awhitu and Pollok — well worth a read if you’d like to know more about the area.
